CLUB IS ANTICIPATING A SOLD OUT

CROWD FOR ANNUAL SCHOOL DAY GAME

TORONTO, ON—(June 10, 2002)…The Toronto Lynx (1-7-1, 5 points) will once again be capping off their yearly School Educational Program with their School Day game this Wednesday, June 12 when Toronto takes on the Pittsburgh Riverhounds (2-7-4, 12 points) at Centennial Park Stadium.  Kick-off for the match is 12:00 p.m.

The Lynx are anticipating a sold out crowd of students, educators and soccer fans for this dynamic event.  Pre-game ceremonies will kick off at 11:30 p.m. with several local area school bands and choirs setting the stage for what promises to be another exciting match.

This annual event is the culminating point of one of the most successful community outreach programs over the last four years.  In 2002, the Toronto Lynx players once again delivered countless soccer clinics to Greater Toronto Area schools along with educational presentations on lifestyle issues.  This year, in partnership with the Canadian Lung Association and the Canadian Safe School Network, the Toronto Lynx have zeroed in on an anti-smoking message and “Kick Bullying”, an anti-violence message.

Toronto Lynx Owner and Chief Operating Officer, Nicole Hartrell says, “We are very proud of our relationship with GTA schools.  Having come from an educational background, I understand the importance of supporting our teachers in the delivery of the school curriculum.  The feedback that we get from the students and teachers in very heartwarming.  They truly appreciate the effective positive influence and modeling of our Toronto Lynx players".

Students will get a special treat Wednesday as Paul Stalteri, the most celebrated Lynx alumni, will be on hand to perform the ceremonial kick-off and sign autographs.  Born in Toronto, Stalteri was an offensive force in the Lynx’ first season, leading the club with 7 goals in 16 games.  In 1997, the forward led the club to an A-League record 10 game winning streak and a birth in the playoffs before leaving to join Werder Bremen of the German Bundesliga.  The former Lynx star is now a regular first-team player with the club and is a starter with our Canadian National Team.

FATHER DAY CELEBRATIONS AT INAUGURAL CALGARY STORM MATCH

The Toronto Lynx will be hosting the expansion Calgary Storm on Father Appreciation Night at Centennial Stadium on Saturday, June 15 at 7:30 p.m.  The all-Canadian match-up is the inaugural match for both teams as Calgary joined the A-League in 2002.

Special ticket packages created especially for fathers and grandfathers provide great and affordable pro soccer action with added musical entertainment. Dads will be treated to a Broadway style musical entitled “Not a Sound, Baby Sleep”, and music by the Humber Express, a dynamic barbershop chorus, performing classic favourites such as “In the Good Old Summertime”, “Down Our Way” and “I Want A Girl”.

U14 TORONTO LYNX JUNIORS INAUGURAL GAME

Gary Miller will be unveiling his 2002 roster showcasing some of the finest youth talent that the Greater Toronto Area has to offer this Saturday. The U14 Toronto Lynx Juniors have been training over the last few months and are ready to battle the U14 Rochester Raging Rhinos Junior squad in a double header kicking off at 4:30 before the Toronto/Calgary match. The Toronto Lynx Juniors are part of the Super Y League, an elite youth development league of the United Soccer Leagues that prepares top talent for professional play. The Toronto Lynx join many MLS and A-League clubs in fielding teams in the Super Y League. Nicole Hartrell clarifies that, “ Peter Pinizzotto and Gary Miller are working out the details for greater mentoring of the U14 squad by the senior team. This is an exhibition season for the junior squad with plans in place for full entry and expansion in 2003”.
